The Meridian Operations Leadership Challenge: A Cross-Sector Management Scenario
Participants take on the role of a newly appointed Operations Manager at Meridian Services, a fictionalised mid-sized organisation operating across three regional divisions in the public and private sectors. The organisation is facing simultaneous pressures: a strategic restructure requiring new operational plans, a disengaged and geographically dispersed team, a budget under review, and a major change initiative meeting significant resistance from frontline staff. Participants must manage all of these demands concurrently, drawing on every unit of the Diploma to navigate the scenario. The simulation runs as a thread across the final three units of the programme (Units 520, 521 and 514), with each session adding a new layer of complexity.
Working in small online groups, participants apply their project management, operational planning, financial analysis, data decision-making, and change leadership skills to produce a set of management deliverables: a KPI driven operational plan, a project delivery update, a budget variance brief, a data-driven decision brief, and a change communication plan. Each deliverable is reviewed by a peer panel using CMI Level 5 Pass descriptors, giving participants direct experience of the assessment standard before their formal submissions. The simulation concludes with a structured debrief that maps each deliverable to the relevant unit learning outcomes, reinforcing the connection between simulation practice and written assessment evidence.
AI-Assisted Management Reporting and Decision Support Sandbox
Participants work in a simulated online management environment where they use AI-assisted tools to streamline three core management workflows: operational performance reporting, management communication drafting, and data-driven decision briefs. Using tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT and Excel with AI features, participants generate first-draft outputs for each workflow, then apply critical evaluation skills developed in Unit 521 to assess reliability, bias, and ethical appropriateness before finalising any output. The sandbox is designed to reflect the real conditions managers face when AI tools are available but governance and quality standards must still be met.
Participants use generative AI to draft a budget variance narrative, a change progress update, and a decision-log entry, then work through a structured review protocol to identify where AI output meets management standards and where human judgement must override or supplement it. They produce a short AI Use Policy for their own management context, specifying where AI assistance is appropriate, what review steps are required, and how academic integrity is maintained in CMI assessment submissions. The sandbox reinforces that AI is a productivity tool, not a substitute for the analytical and reflective competencies that CMI Level 5 assesses.

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is a UK-based professional body dedicated to improving the standard of management and leadership. Established in 1947 and granted its Royal Charter in 2002, CMI works with employers, education providers and individuals to develop professional management capability. Its work includes management qualifications, professional development resources and routes towards Chartered Manager recognition. Its stated mission is to increase the number and standard of professionally qualified managers and leaders, supporting better-led and better-managed organizations.
CMI Level 5 is a management and leadership qualification designed around responsibilities that extend beyond supervising daily tasks. It covers areas such as leading teams, managing projects, planning operations, overseeing financial matters, and making decisions using organizational information.
For managers in Dubai, these capabilities can be relevant when coordinating different departments, working with diverse teams, or managing operational responsibilities across business functions. The qualification provides a structured way to develop management knowledge and apply it to workplace situations. It is particularly suited to professionals preparing for, or already handling, broader managerial responsibilities.
The CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership is a seven-unit qualification covering the main responsibilities involved in managing people, projects and organizational operations. Its curriculum includes leadership principles, project delivery, team development, operational planning, finance, data-informed decision-making, and organizational change.
The Learners Point program provides 165 guided learning hours, 410 TUT, and 41 credits through live online Saturday sessions. Participants complete a written assignment for each unit, using workplace situations to demonstrate their understanding. The program includes practical exercises, an industry simulation, and an AI-assisted management reporting sandbox. There is no formal examination.
The full CMI Level 5 Diploma takes approximately six months, delivered over 24 Saturdays. Participants attend one live online session each week, with standard sessions running from 09:00 to 17:00. Three designated days, days 7, 14, and 17, include an additional 1.75 hours to complete the scheduled learning hours. The program provides 165 guided learning hours across seven units. Independent study and assignment preparation are required outside the scheduled sessions.
The program is intended for professionals in Dubai who already have some management experience or are actively moving towards wider management responsibilities. It is particularly relevant to:
Experienced supervisors and team leaders preparing to take on broader responsibilities may also find the qualification relevant. The full Diploma route requires participants to begin with the first unit and complete all seven.
Through this course, you can develop a broader understanding of how to manage people, projects, and organizational responsibilities. The program covers leadership approaches, team development, coaching, inclusive management, performance conversations, and ways to build trust within different working environments. You can also learn to plan projects, allocate resources, monitor risks, and address delivery issues.
The later units help you strengthen your ability to prepare operational plans, interpret financial information, analyse organizational data, and make informed decisions. You can also apply recognised change-management models when communicating change, addressing resistance and supporting teams through workplace transitions.
The skills covered in the CMI Level 5 Diploma can be applied across Dubai's varied business sectors, where managers often coordinate teams, resources and operational targets. Depending on your role, you could use them for:
These applications depend on your responsibilities and workplace context. The qualification develops transferable management knowledge rather than training for one specific industry.
A generic management course may focus on selected topics, offer a short learning experience, or provide a certificate of attendance. The CMI Level 5 Diploma follows a defined UK-regulated qualification structure, with seven units, specified learning requirements, and assessment criteria. It covers several connected management functions rather than concentrating on one area.
For professionals in Dubai seeking a more substantial qualification, the Diploma offers a structured route through people management, projects, operations, finance, data, and organizational change. Its written assignments require participants to apply their learning to workplace situations. It also provides a progression route towards Foundation Chartered Manager status, subject to the relevant application requirements.
Learners Point offers professional training in Dubai for individuals and organizations looking to develop workplace capabilities. Its training approach combines instructor-led learning with practical activities, giving participants opportunities to work through concepts rather than rely entirely on theory. The CMI Level 5 Diploma program includes:
The program is designed to connect formal qualification requirements with the situations managers may encounter in their roles across the UAE.
You do not need to hold a previous management qualification to be considered for this program. The Diploma brochure positions the course for people with some management experience or those actively working towards a management role. What matters is having a suitable connection to management responsibilities and being prepared to engage with the program's seven units and written assignments. If you are currently a supervisor or team leader preparing to take on wider responsibilities, you can discuss your background with the Learners Point team before enrolment.
No. You will not have to sit a formal examination to complete the CMI Level 5 Diploma. Assessment takes place through written assignments, with one assignment required for each of the seven units. Each brief is introduced during a dedicated 30-minute session within the relevant unit's guided learning hours.
You will receive guidance on assessment criteria, command verbs, assignment structure and the use of workplace evidence. Your completed work is reviewed by a Learners Point Internal Assessor before submission through the CMI portal for moderation. Each unit allows one initial assessment attempt and one resit. Any applicable resit fee is payable to CMI.
The three qualifications represent different completion points within the CMI Level 5 Management and Leadership structure. The Award requires at least 40 TUT and 4 credits, and can be achieved through a qualifying unit. The Certificate requires at least 130 TUT and 13 credits. At Learners Point, the primary Certificate route combines Unit 501, Principles of Management and Leadership in an organizational Context, with Unit 513, Managing Projects to Achieve Results.
The Diploma is the full seven-unit route, with a minimum requirement of 370 TUT and 37 credits. The Learners Point program provides 410 TUT and 41 credits. Participants can complete the Award or Certificate at the relevant exit point, while Diploma candidates continue through all seven units. Completion also provides a route towards Foundation Chartered Manager status, subject to the relevant CMI requirements.
The Level 5 curriculum is designed around managers who primarily implement organizational priorities and manage operational responsibilities, rather than shape ESG strategy at an organizational level. For this reason, ESG is not included as a core unit in this Diploma pathway.
The seven selected units focus on people, projects, operations, finance, information, decision-making, and organizational change.
The Diploma route requires candidates to begin on the first Saturday. Participants must complete the full seven-unit sequence, so joining at a later unit boundary is not part of the Diploma pathway.
Rolling entry points are available for eligible Award and Certificate candidates at designated unit boundaries, subject to the relevant qualification requirements.
Yes. Award, Certificate and Diploma participants are taught within one Level 5 batch, following the full Diploma teaching sequence.
Award candidates can leave after their qualifying unit, while Certificate candidates complete the required combination of units. Diploma candidates remain in the batch until all seven units have been completed.
Alongside the scheduled classes, you will need to set aside time for independent study and written assignment preparation. The live sessions provide guided learning, but they do not cover all the work required to complete the qualification. You should be prepared to:
These activities take place outside the scheduled guided learning hours.
A shorter management course may cover selected skills over a limited period. The CMI Level 5 Diploma is a structured, UK-regulated qualification comprising seven units, with defined TUT and credit requirements.
It also requires written assignments against CMI assessment criteria. The full Learners Point pathway provides 410 TUT and 41 credits, covering several areas of management practice rather than one isolated topic.
The right route depends on how much of the Level 5 management and leadership curriculum you want to complete. The Award is suitable if you need a focused qualification based on one qualifying unit. The Certificate provides broader coverage through a combination of units and requires at least 130 TUT and 13 credits.
If you want to study people management, projects, operations, finance, data, and organizational change within one qualification, the Diploma is the most comprehensive option. It covers all seven units and requires at least 370 TUT and 37 credits.
