Strategic Leadership Challenge: From Strategic Context to Organisational Strategy
Participants take on the role of a newly appointed Senior Director in a mid-sized cross-sector organisation facing simultaneous pressures: a board mandate to refresh its multi-year strategy, external disruption squeezing margins, a leadership team divided by culture, and a regulator demanding improved governance and transparency. The scenario is deliberately complex and ambiguous, reflecting the real conditions senior leaders face when translating strategic intent into performance.
Working in facilitated peer groups across two simulation blocks, participants apply Unit 701 frameworks, such as the Cultural Web and stakeholder mapping, and Unit 704 tools, including PESTLE, Porter's Five Forces, and the Ansoff Matrix, to develop a credible, board-ready strategy statement with success factors and monitoring measures.
Each group presents to a simulated executive panel and fields challenge questions on evidence quality, risk, and implementation feasibility. The simulation produces a draft narrative that participants can adapt for their Unit 701 and Unit 704 written assignments.
AI-Assisted Strategic Research and Assessment Preparation Workspace
Participants work inside a structured sandbox designed to replicate the research and writing workflow of a senior leader preparing a postgraduate-level CMI submission. Using a curated set of AI-assisted tools, including Elicit for academic literature synthesis, NotebookLM for source organisation and annotation, and Writefull for academic language refinement, participants learn to accelerate evidence gathering and argument structuring without compromising academic integrity. The sandbox is built around the actual assessment criteria for Unit 701 and Unit 704, so every tool interaction is anchored to a real qualification output.
Participants use generative AI to draft initial outlines, identify counter-arguments, and surface relevant leadership theory and sector evidence, then apply critical evaluation skills to verify, challenge, and refine those inputs before incorporating them into their own written work. The sandbox includes a governance layer: an AI-use policy checklist, a source verification protocol, and a Harvard referencing validator. Participants leave with a structured research file, a verified reference list, and a first-draft argument map for each unit assignment.
Upon completing the training, learners will be able to:
1
Analyse how UAE organizational context, culture and governance influence strategic leadership decisions
2
Evaluate how strategic leaders communicate goals and address stakeholder expectations across functions
3
Justify leadership behaviours and decision-making approaches when addressing complex organizational challenges at senior level
4
Analyse competitive and external pressures using PESTLE, Five Forces and scenario-planning tools
5
Develop organizational strategies with clear objectives, implementation plans, success factors and performance indicators
6
Produce evidence-based Unit 701 and Unit 704 assignments aligned with CMI assessment criteria
Overall ratings by our students
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is a UK-based professional body that works to raise standards in management and leadership. Founded in 1947 as the British Institute of Management, it received a Royal Charter in 2002. CMI provides professional qualifications, management resources and development routes for people seeking to strengthen their workplace capabilities. It also awards Chartered Manager status through its own professional recognition process. For managers in Dubai and across the UAE, CMI qualifications offer a structured way to develop management knowledge and demonstrate learning against an established qualification framework.
CMI Level 7 represents advanced, postgraduate-level learning. It is intended for professionals who need to evaluate complex issues, make informed decisions, and understand how leadership choices affect organizational performance. The emphasis is on critical thinking and applying management knowledge, rather than simply learning general leadership techniques.
For managers in Dubai, the CMI Level 7 Certificate brings together strategic leadership and organizational strategy. Participants examine governance, organizational culture, stakeholder expectations, competitive pressures and the implementation of strategic plans. These subjects can be relevant to professionals working across departments, business units or diverse stakeholder groups. The qualification supports structured development, although its value for a particular role depends on the person’s experience and responsibilities.
The CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice in Dubai is designed for experienced managers and aspiring senior leaders who want to strengthen their ability to evaluate organizational challenges and develop strategy. It covers two Group A units: Unit 701: Strategic Leadership and Unit 704: Developing Organizational Strategy.
The program comprises 10 tutor-led sessions and 66 Guided Learning Hours, with a 30-minute orientation before the sessions. Participants examine leadership responsibilities, governance, competitive analysis, strategic options, and performance monitoring. Practical exercises and an industry simulation connect the learning with organizational scenarios. The Certificate carries 20 credits and 200 hours of Total Qualification Time, and participants prepare written assignments for both units.
The Certificate is delivered through 10 tutor-led sessions totalling 66 Guided Learning Hours. Before these sessions, participants attend a 30-minute orientation covering CMI policies and assessment rules. The qualification also carries 200 hours of Total Qualification Time and 20 credits, which includes the wider work involved in study and assessment. Anyone planning the course around work or other commitments should contact Learners Point to confirm the current schedule and allow time for both written assignments.
The course is intended for professionals who already have substantial work experience and are ready to examine business issues from a strategic perspective. Senior managers, heads of function, directors, and aspiring senior leaders with five or more years of professional experience are the intended audience.
It may be suitable for professionals in Dubai and the wider UAE who work in:
Participants should be comfortable analysing complex workplace situations and developing evidence-based arguments. Current entry requirements should be confirmed with Learners Point before enrolment.
The three qualifications differ in how much of the Level 7 strategic management framework they cover. The Award is centred on Unit 701 and provides 11 credits. The Certificate combines Unit 701 with Unit 704, adding organizational strategy development and bringing the total to 20 credits. The Diploma goes further by including Unit 702, which addresses people, culture and performance, and Unit 608, which focuses on CSR and sustainability. It carries 37 credits in total. For UAE-based professionals, the decision should reflect whether the immediate learning requirement is strategic leadership, strategy development, or a broader senior management remit.
You can strengthen your ability to assess organizational challenges, evaluate strategic options, and justify decisions with evidence. The course covers stakeholder expectations, governance, leadership behaviour, ethical decision-making and communication. You will also examine how competitive conditions and organizational resources affect the development of strategy.
The program can help you practise turning analysis into a proposed course of action, with objectives, success factors and performance measures. These skills may be relevant when coordinating different functions, presenting recommendations or reviewing business priorities. You will still need to apply the learning to your own workplace and build on your existing experience. Completing the qualification does not by itself guarantee promotion or a particular management position.
Dubai’s varied business sectors offer different settings in which strategic leadership and organizational planning skills may be useful. Official H1 2026 figures reported 8.8% real growth in financial and insurance activities and 14.3% in human health and social work activities. These figures show sector performance, not job availability, but they illustrate the range of organizational environments in which strategic capability can matter.
The qualification provides frameworks that you can adapt to your role. Career progression will depend on your experience, performance and employer requirements.
A generic course may concentrate on selected leadership skills, with its content and assessment determined by the provider. The CMI Level 7 Certificate has a defined qualification structure that combines strategic leadership with organizational strategy. This means you study both how leaders set direction and how organizations develop, implement, and monitor their strategies.
The program includes 10 tutor-led sessions, 66 Guided Learning Hours, 20 credits, and 200 hours of Total Qualification Time. It also requires written assignments for both units. For professionals in Dubai who want a structured qualification alongside applied learning, this may be a better fit than a short course focused on one topic. You should compare the learning outcomes, assessment method, and recognition of any program before deciding.
Learners Point’s program follows the CMI Level 7 Certificate structure, covering strategic leadership and organizational strategy through tutor-led learning, practical exercises, and assignment preparation. For professionals in the UAE, this provides a defined route to study leadership decisions alongside the analysis and monitoring involved in strategy development.
The program is intended for experienced professionals ready to work at postgraduate level. Before enrolling, prospective participants should confirm the Dubai delivery schedule, current entry requirements, and assessment arrangements with Learners Point.
The Award covers Unit 701 Strategic Leadership. To reach the Certificate, the next unit in the Certificate structure is Unit 704 Developing Organizational Strategy, with the previous Unit 701 achievement subject to the relevant CMI registration and recognition arrangements. The Certificate is therefore made up of Units 701 and 704.
For those aiming for the full Diploma, the pathway continues with Unit 702, Leading and Developing People to Optimise Performance, and Unit 608, Strategic CSR and Sustainability. This progression broadens the focus from strategic leadership to strategy, people performance and responsible business practice.
You can plan for the program around a full-time role, but you should first check the actual session timetable. The course has 10 tutor-led sessions and 66 Guided Learning Hours, preceded by a 30-minute orientation.
You should also set aside time for independent study and the two written assignments. The qualification’s 200 hours of Total Qualification Time indicate a wider commitment than attending the guided sessions alone.
Completing the CMI Level 7 Certificate does not automatically make you a Chartered Manager. The Certificate is a formal qualification covering strategic leadership and organizational strategy. Chartered Manager status is a separate professional recognition awarded by CMI through its applicable assessment and application process.
If you want to pursue Chartered Manager status, you should check CMI’s current eligibility criteria and available routes directly. You should not assume that completing this Certificate alone fulfils every requirement. The qualification can support your professional development, but eligibility for Chartered Manager status depends on CMI’s relevant process and the experience and evidence required for the route you choose.
