    Frequently asked questions

ITIL 5 is the latest evolution of the ITIL framework for managing digital products and services. It builds on established ITIL concepts while giving greater attention to lifecycle thinking, end-to-end value streams, digital products and services, experience, continual improvement and modern AI-enabled environments.

PeopleCert describes ITIL Version 5 as an evolution rather than a complete reset of ITIL knowledge. Existing ITIL 4 knowledge therefore remains relevant. For professionals already familiar with ITIL 4, ITIL 5 Training can help them understand what has changed and how newer concepts apply to contemporary service environments.

ITIL Version 5 is the official entry point into the ITIL Version 5 certification scheme, making it particularly relevant for beginners, graduates, and early-career IT professionals.
PeopleCert states that ITIL Foundation introduces candidates to digital product and service management across the complete lifecycle of creation, delivery and continual improvement. No previous ITIL certification is required to begin at Foundation level.

For fresh graduates and early-career professionals, ITIL 5 Foundation provides a recognised service management vocabulary and develops an understanding of value creation, service delivery, collaboration, and continual improvement.

An ITIL 5 Course can be relevant to a broad range of technology and business professionals involved in delivering or improving digital products and services.

    Typical learners include:

    • Fresh graduates and entry-level IT professionals
    • IT Support and Operations professionals
    • IT Service Management professionals
    • Service Delivery professionals
    • IT Project Managers
    • Product Owners

The official ITIL Foundation Version 5 examination currently consists of:

    • 40 multiple-choice questions
    • 60-minute examination
    • Closed-book format
    • 65% minimum passing score

The training is valuable for professionals who work with digital products, IT operations, service delivery, customer experience, or transformation and want a structured approach to managing value across the service lifecycle.

Its relevance also reflects wider changes in the labour market. The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 found that nearly 40% of skills required for jobs are expected to change by 2030, while 63% of employers identify skills gaps as a major barrier to transformation.

No. A previous ITIL certification is not required to begin with ITIL Foundation Version 5. PeopleCert identifies Foundation as the first step in the Version 5 learning journey.

However, professionals who already hold ITIL 4 Foundation have another option. PeopleCert offers the ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5), which focuses specifically on Foundation-level changes and provides an accelerated route for eligible ITIL 4 certification holders.

For someone starting their ITIL journey now, ITIL Foundation Version 5 is the entry point to the latest qualification scheme. It remains relevant during the transition period, but PeopleCert currently plans to sunset ITIL 4 modules on 31 December 2027. Existing ITIL 4 knowledge and qualifications continue to be recognised within transition pathways.

Therefore, a new learner who has not already invested in an ITIL 4 pathway would generally have a stronger reason to investigate ITIL 5 Foundation first.

Completing ITIL 5 Certification can support progression toward roles involving IT services, operations, digital products, projects and transformation.

PeopleCert identifies potential roles around ITIL Foundation Version 5, including the following:

    • IT Operations Specialist
    • IT Team Leader
    • IT Project Manager
    • IT Service Manager
    • Service Improvement Manager

Learners Point's ITIL 5 Training differentiates itself through a practical transition-and-adoption learning approach rather than focusing only on theoretical framework concepts.
    Our training provides the following:

    • Practical value stream mapping
    • Lifecycle mapping
    • Real-world ITSM case studies
    • UX, CX and XLA exercises
    • AI and automation use cases
    • Copilot-assisted activities
    • Multiple mock assessments
    • Industry simulations
    • An Automation Sandbox
    • Agile, DevOps and governance alignment

Yes. AI has a considerably more visible role within the broader ITIL Version 5 ecosystem, which PeopleCert describes as designed for modern, AI-enabled digital environments. ITIL Version 5 also includes AI Governance as an extension module within the wider qualification scheme.

The Learners Point program consists of the following:

    • AI fundamentals for ITSM
    • Automation use cases
    • AI-enabled service workflows
    • Governance considerations
    • Automation-ready process design
