    The most suitable progression after Security+ depends on the professional’s cybersecurity career direction. Professionals interested in defensive security and threat analysis can consider CompTIA CySA+, while those interested in penetration testing can explore CompTIA PenTest+.

    Professionals moving towards advanced security architecture and engineering may consider SecurityX, while those progressing towards cybersecurity management, architecture, or leadership may eventually consider credentials such as CISSP.

    A potential progression can therefore look like:

    Security+ → specialised technical certification → advanced or leadership certification

    The two certifications serve different career stages. CompTIA Security+ is better suited to professionals who want to establish or strengthen practical foundations across threats, architecture, security operations, risk, governance, IAM, and incident response.

    CISSP, by comparison, is aimed at more experienced cybersecurity professionals and has a broader technical and managerial orientation. ISC2 currently requires five years of cumulative professional experience in at least two CISSP domains, although up to one year may be waived through eligible education or credentials.

    The program incorporates AI as a supporting cybersecurity capability rather than presenting it as a substitute for professional judgement.
